Nov 3, 2018 · The PC-98 is a Japanese personal home computer manufactured by NEC during the 1980's and 1990's. It was essentially the Japanese variant of the IBM PC, and very incompatible with it too. It had lots and lots of anime games with beautiful pixel art.

Dec 9, 2019 · Towards the later years of the PC-98 artists started doing pretty fancy stuff with aliasing and vectors to achieve smoother manga/anime styles. As much as I love the pixel art from that era, it seems that the actual artists creating stuff on the PC-98 were enthusiastic about making it look more realistic.

PC98 Art Process baffling me! Please help : r/PixelArt - Reddit
Jul 30, 2018 · PC98 Art. Which ignore color ramps all over he place - see the light reflections and the right hand wall. Clearly these extremely complex dithers are done algorithmically, this time by an algorithm ignoring color ramps. So even if I was to suffer through the Fessler method, I'd eventually still have areas needing true dithering.
I plan on making some PC-98 Art, but some questions, first.
Jul 2, 2021 · Yes you can change the palette per scanline. While testing and developing PC-98 emulation with DOSBox-X over the years I've come across a game or two with title screens that do vertical gradients that way (in 16-color graphics) for a flashy effect during their title screen.

Jul 13, 2023 · It's the first time I've made a portrait of the shrine maiden, and the first time I've made PC-98 style art. Considering this context, I put a lot of effort into it. I keeped the pose, clothes and hairstyle of TH19, and applied the drawing style and some design of TH03.

Mar 31, 2016 · The art for these PC-98 games didn't require super-advanced draftsmanship and technical skills to make. I think the real cleverness most J-PC developers excelled at was scanning and dithering artwork to look more crisp and unique than before, after which point it's possible to also recycle assets in a way that doesn't feel lazy and rushed.
