Jan 29, 2020 · The built-in P420i controller does not have the "smart array advanced" license pack installed, nor does it have a FBWC module, and it is on firmware revision 8.00 which I believe is the latest. Hopefully this is a worthy discussion for this section, if not let me know and I will move it to the 10 section?

Aug 17, 2015 · You still very much have a problem as you're using a RAID controller with ZFS. Enable HBA/passthrough mode via HP SSA (Smart Storage Admin) on that P420i or replace it with a HBA.

Sep 16, 2018 · I can set the p420i to HBA mode and get all the drives to show up in FreeNAS just fine, so long as I leave the FBWC installed. When I remove the FBWC, FreeNAS only shows 2 drives.

Mar 17, 2021 · My recollection is that the H240 is not an LSI based HBA. That falls under points 2) and 4) of the link I previously quoted. Basically we don't know, but it looks like it might be registered to the cciss driver, which is known to suck. The 9300-8i is a perfectly boring LSI HBA that will work fine when crossflashed to IT mode with the correct firmware rev.
