Mar 22, 2013 · The "R" did indicate a railed version up until several years ago. At the time Sig made and sold both railed and classic non-railed styles. Currently, however, all new model P226's (except for maybe some of the fancier, custom type models) come with the rail, so the "R" designation has been dropped and they are simply called "P226".
