Jan 24, 2022 · Also as far as I know Rochester does require a lab for Biochem if you do sub it for Orgo II. Although it is not ideal, I was able to craft a broad school list (~25) and received 13 IIs without Orgo II/subbed with Biochemistry. Again, like OP, I 100% recommend taking Orgo II and I only ended up without it due to specific personal circumstances.

Dec 23, 2023 · Orgo 2 is much easier in my opinion. Study with your friends and make practice problems with each other to practice synthesis. You’ll also learn a lot more rxns for synthesis, so you have more options and aren’t dependent on remembering the only rxn you know that does that one thing you need. Good luck!

It's not a broadening of knowledge like gen chem 1 to gen chem 2, but it's an additional depth. To do well in 2, I recommend studying and understanding the basics of 1, or you'll be floundering from the beginning and falling behind.

I was planning on taking it during my gap years but when I started applying to med schools I realized I didn’t really have to. I had 32 schools on my original application list, only 2 actually required orgo 2 explicitly.
