    Side effects

    Common side effects

    • Headache disorder
    • Vomiting
    • Flatulence
    • Diarrhea
    • Acute abdominal pain
    • Upper respiratory infection
    • Constipation
    • Pruritus of skin
    • Back pain
    • Dizziness
    • General weakness
    • Cough
    • Chest pain
    • Nausea
    • Fever
    • Sore throat

    If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly

    • Headache or abdominal pain

    Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including

    • Symptoms of a low magnesium blood level
    • Signs of lupus

    This medication may rarely cause a severe intestinal condition due to a type of bacteria. Do not use anti-diarrhea or opioid medications if you have any of the following symptoms because these products may make them worse. Tell your doctor right away if you develop

    • Persistent diarrhea
    • Abdominal or stomach pain/cramping
    • Fever
    • Blood/mucus in your stool

    A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including

    • Rash
    • Itching/swelling
    • Severe dizziness
    • Trouble breathing
    • Signs of kidney problems

    Other things to note

    • If your doctor has directed you to use this product, remember that he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
    • Rarely, proton pump inhibitors have caused vitamin B-12 deficiency. The risk is increased if they are taken every day for a long time . Tell your doctor right away if you develop symptoms of vitamin B-12 deficiency .

    Omeprazole - Precautions

    • May increase risk of bone fractures.
    • Call MD now for heartburn with sweating & dizziness
    • Call doctor if you get severe diarrhea
    • For capsule, delayed release products : Before use, important to read the Medication Guide. Call MD or RPh re. timing of taking with other meds. Take before meals. Swallow whole. Do not break/chew/crush/dissolve. May open capsule. Mix into cool applesauce & swallow.
    • For tablet, delayed release products : If available, read the patient package insert. Take with a full glass of water (8 ounces).
    • For tablet, disintegrating, delayed release products : Open with dry hands and place tablet on tongue. Place unbroken tablet on tongue to dissolve. Take before meal(s) at same time(s) each day. Before using tell Dr. if you have phenylketonuria. Review all drugs you are taking with your doctor.

    Warnings

    • Use this medication before a meal. Read label carefully for how many times to use each day.
    • For capsule, delayed release products : Do not chew or crush before swallowing.
    • For capsule, delayed release products : May sprinkle capsule contents on unheated applesauce. Swallow mixture immediately without chewing.
    • For capsule, delayed release products : It is very important that you take or use this exactly as directed. Do not skip doses or discontinue unless directed by your doctor.
    • For tablet, delayed release products : Swallow whole. Do not chew or crush.
    • For tablet, delayed release products : Take in the morning as directed
    • For tablet, delayed release products : Medication should be taken with plenty of water.
    • For tablet, disintegrating, delayed release products : Open packaging with dry hands. Dissolve medicine on the tongue or in the mouth.
