Oct 4, 2023 · The oil pump that is in there is a Melling HV pump, HP spring installed. Besides a defective oil pump, what else could it be? A poorly polished crank would make the same noise cold or warm? A bad tensioner or chain would make the same noise cold or warm? I have done oil testing and have not seen anything strange. Things I need to do.

Mar 9, 2025 · With the Melling High Volume oil pumps I normally see 32-34psi as my hot idle pressure and I am always using a mechanical gauge on my customers builds. On the last 5.7 I finished a few days ago with Hellcat pump my hot idle was 39psi on the mechanical gauge and the instrument cluster showed 46psi on the stock oil pressure sending unit.

Sep 29, 2024 · The smaller diameter oil filters tend to result in lower oil pressure as well. It's worth a shot. Easier than stripping it apart and putting a standard OEM oil pump back in. My truck is 30 hot idle and 65-70 at highway speeds using 5w20 and the large diameter Mopar filter. My engine is bone stock, never been opened up, with 90,000 miles.

In some cases, it could be the sign of a failing oil pump so that needs to be addressed also. However, The filter has nothing to do with oil pressure. The pressure regulator in the oil pump

Oct 22, 2021 · I did the MMX melling Hellcat oil pump. Keep in mind, the hellcat pumps are designed for engines with the oil squirters so really cranks up the volume and pressure. In fact, it may be TOO high. Oil pressure that's too high can be bad also, it'll take away some horsepower and at extreme conditions/heavy loads can be detrimental for a lot of reasons.

Dec 18, 2018 · Find an Allen head but or socket that will fit the oil pump hex drive. I think a 10mm or possibly a ⅜ will fit but get one that will at least turn it. It doesn't have to be perfect. Put the Allen socket or bit in your drill. Put the oil pump pick-up tube in the oil and slowly turn the pump drive until oil starts to flow out of the top.

Now, a high volume oil pump, due to the higher flow of oil, will create higher pressures since its now trying to force MORE oil through the same size passages.
