I remember when they came out a lot of Nikon F and F2 users, including me, thought it was blasphemy--all electronic--battery dependent--what was Nikon thinking!! Evidently Nikon was thining correctly since the F3 was made into the 21st century.

I absolutely love the Nikon F2 but the F3 is a better camera in every respect....ergonomics, features and functionality, screen brightness, shutter accuracy, meter accuracy and reliability, auto winder...everything about the F3 is better.

I bought a used F3 with nikkor-s auto 50mm f1.4 (not sure if its Ai or not) and it was working fine until recently the shutter stays closed at the f-stop i have it set at and mirror stays locked up.

Dec 15, 2024 · First production Nikon F3 models used a plastic knob and shaft. As mentioned, the plastic wears away and the button no longer is held in place so it falls out and often gets lost. Nikon changed the exposure lock button to all metal at some point and it is held in with a clip from the back so it does not fall out.

This is definitely a working solution for pre AI Vivitar lenses (I did much the same with a piece of copper on my 20/3.5), and others whose aperture rings are flush with the mount, but will not work on Nikkors and many others, because the aperture ring extends further back.

Nov 9, 2022 · Nikon F3 - DE2 & DE3 by Les DMess, on Flickr I have the Minolta SRT-101 and it's viewfinder magnification is larger than the DE-2. I don't see it listed in the manual so I am guessing it's less than 0.90X to 0.85X. I don't wear glasses so I much prefer larger magnification as it helps me achieve critical focus more easily and quicker.
