Jan 9, 2019 · Bombardier Transportation made it official, announcing it has signed a contract for 113 Multilevel III commuter rail cars with New Jersey Transit worth as much as $669 million. The historic order includes options and for as many as 886 additional cars.

NJ Transit Rail Operations (reporting mark NJTR), the rail division of NJ Transit, operates a fleet of 175 locomotives and over 1,200 passenger cars. This rolling stock is used to operate NJ Transit's network of 11 lines.

Jul 24, 2024 · NEWARK, NJ – Today the NJ TRANSIT’s Board of Directors approved the purchase of 36 additional Multilevel III rail cars that offer an increase in seating capacity, mechanical reliability and improved customer amenities.

The new multilevel cars are to replace NJ Transit's Arrow III EMUs, [15] and may replace the 29 older ALP-46 electric locomotives in the future. The maximum speed of the power cars is 110 mph. Alstom, which purchased Bombardier in 2021, will complete the order.
