Ring around NGC 4650A - ESA/Hubble
Guided by 8, 000 Internet voters, Hubble has already been used to take a close-up, multi-color picture of the most popular object from a list of candidates, the extraordinary 'polar-ring' galaxy NGC 4650A. Located about 130 million light-years away, NGC 4650A is one of only 100 known polar-ring galaxies.
"Polar Ring" Galaxy NGC 4650A: A Disk of Red Stars Ringed By Dust…
May 6, 1999 · This is the polar ring which we see almost edge-on in Hubble's Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 image of NGC 4650A, created using 3 different color filters (which transmit blue, green, and near-infrared light).
APOD: June 25, 1998 - NGC 4650A: Strange Galaxy and Dark Matter
NGC 4650A: Strange Galaxy and Dark Matter Credit: Very Large Telescope Project, ESO. Explanation: This strangely distorted galaxy of stars is cataloged as NGC 4650A. It lies about 165 million light-years away in the southern constellation Centaurus.
NGC 4650A - Lenticular Galaxy in Centaurus | TheSkyLive.com
NGC 4650A is a Lenticular Galaxy in the Centaurus constellation. NGC 4650A is situated south of the celestial equator and, as such, it is more easily visible from the southern hemisphere. Given its visual magnitude of 13.58, NGC 4650A is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 14 inches (350mm) or more.
Hubble Heritage Archive: The Polar-Ring Galaxy, NGC 4650A
Sep 24, 2020 · In NGC 4650A, both the old, rotating disk and the dark matter surrounding this galaxy pull on its polar ring. The alignment of the ring along the pole of the inner disk’s rotation allows scientists to probe this combination of tugs and thus the distribution of dark matter.
APOD: May 10, 1999 - Polar Ring Galaxy NGC 4650A
A rare type of galaxy known as a Polar Ring, NGC 4650A is composed of an old central group of stars and a young ring of stars rotating farther out. Both components are clearly visible in this featured photograph by the Hubble Space Telescope.

New H I Observations of the Prototype Polar Ring Galaxy NGC 4650A
New, high resolution observations of the HI emission line and 20-cm continuum at the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) for the prototype polar ring galaxy NGC4650A are presented. We show the presence of a far more extended HI distribution than previously observed with the VLA, and a very regular velocity field out to a distance of ∼ 50 kpc.
Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 Observations of the Polar Ring Galaxy NGC ...
Mar 20, 2002 · We present multicolor Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 images of the polar ring galaxy NGC 4650A (D = 35 Mpc), taken with the Hubble Space Telescope. These data allow a detailed examination of the morphology of the central S0 component and the surrounding "polar ring" of stars, gas, and dust, which are spatially extended and form a "polar disk."
