Charging Rate at 120v (Nema 5-15) is better than advertised
Jul 23, 2014 · I wanted to have two set of extension cables handle when travel. One for the NEMA 5-15 connection and another for the NEMA 10-30. With those two I can at least cover 95+% of scenario when visiting people houses and not having a super charger within 10 miles around me. Public charging suck as BLINK and CHARGEPOINT is great if you are at a mall.

Considering I only drive 30-40 miles per day, I'm debating whether it's worth it to install a NEMA 14-50 (or other type outlet).

Pretty common with the Chevy Volt and Prius Prime crowd, who got a 5-15 EVSE shipped with their car but it also operates at 240V to double the charging speed.

Mar 10, 2016 · It has the NEMA 5-15 adapter, and the NEMA 14-50 adapter. I'm going to have my NEMA 14-50 installed in about a week, so until then will be charging with the 5-15. However, I have access to a 20-amp 110v outlet which the NEMA 5-15 can plug into.

Jun 5, 2013 · Therefore the 5-15 should handle just as much current as the 5-20, so I just leave the 5-15 on the cord. If I plug it into a 5-20 outlet, I put the 5-20 adapter on the UMC. I also carry a 6-15 end for this cord, since I know a few places that can be useful.

Jan 9, 2020 · If you are not getting what you think is the proper current limit (and 40A is definitely not what a 5-15 allows), there can be a couple of things that could throw it off: NEMA adapter is not fully plugged into the mobile connector. The NEMA adapter is defective (there's a chip/resistor inside that "tells" the mobile connector what it is).
