The Murg is an 80.2-kilometre-long [2] river (including its headstream, the Rechtmurg) and tributary of the Rhine in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It flows through the Northern Black Forest into the Upper Rhine Plain, crossing the counties of Freudenstadt and Rastatt.

The Murg is a 34.1 kilometres (21.2 mi) long tributary of the Thur in Switzerland. It rises in the canton of St. Gallen, flows through the canton of Thurgau, and joins the Thur near Warth. Along its route, the river flows through the communities of Mosnang, Fischingen, Sirnach, Münchwilen, Wängi, Stettfurt, Matzingen and Frauenfeld.

The railroad runs through a partly deeply incised Black Forest valley, which leaves hardly any space for the line between the Murg river and rock faces. From Kuppenheim station, the railroad leaves the Rhine plain and now enters the Murg valley.
