The MT-LB (Russian: Многоцелевой Тягач Легкий Бронированный, romanized: Mnogotselevoy tyagach legky bronirovanny, literally "multi-purpose towing vehicle light armored") is a Soviet multi-purpose, fully amphibious, tracked armored fighting vehicle in use since the 1970s.

Its main function is to serve as the base of fire for an artillery gun crew if they come under infantry attack, whereby each gun crew member becomes a rifleman while defending the gun emplacement or retreating from it.

The co-drive small turret next to the commander's position housed a small 7.62mm PKT standard machine gun. So this, and the Infantry's own weaponry (Kalashnikov, hand mortar, MANPADS) were the only armament of the MT-LB in APC configuration.
