In this study we demonstrate that GABAergic and glutamatergic neurons in the mouse VTA project widely to sites throughout the forebrain and brainstem. VTA GABA neurons project primarily to limbic structures other than PFC and NAcc, including the LPO, MCPO, BNST, central amygdala, LHb, and VP, and dorsal raphe.
