Apr 19, 2010 · I see Mercedes is aligned with Mobil 1 and I believe this motor (M177) requires 229.5. There is an "AMG High Performance" motor oil which is 0w40, and a non-AMG which is 5w40.

Apr 17, 2009 · I have a hard time believing Mobil 1 *caused* an engine failure in a Mercedes. That said, I believe there are better oils to use, like euro spec oil (GC) or possibly a diesel oil like Rotella that still has 1200 ppm zinc rather than the 800 ppm mandated by ILSAC.
