The Heckler & Koch MG5 (in the development phase also known as the HK121) is a belt-fed 7.62×51mm NATO general-purpose machine gun manufactured by German firearm manufacturer Heckler & Koch. The MG5 resembles the 5.56×45mm NATO Heckler & Koch MG4 light machine gun, which was adopted into German military service in 2015.

The MG5 machine gun is a simple gas-operated weapon, firing from an open bolt in automatic mode only. It has a quick-detachable, air-cooled barrel, with a conventional rotary bolt locking function. The MG5 is belt fed, using standard NATO disintegrating belts with M13 links.

Due to its modular design, the MG5 is a highly flexible machine gun with night fighting capability. It can be used as a support weapon on a ground target mount, integrated cross-sectionally as vehicle armament or as an infantryman’s hand weapon.
