Metra 217 is a EMD F40PHR locomotive. It was originally delivered to Amtrak, and was purchased used from Virginia Railway Express in 2016. Before entering service with Metra, it received a full rebuild at Progress Rail, and was upgraded to F40PH-3 specifications.
