The M55 received a new, more powerful generator in the 1960s and served through the Vietnam War, usually mounted in the back of an M35 2.5 ton or M54 5-ton gun trucks.

May 21, 2018 · Its attachment to the M17 trailer produced the "M51 Multiple Machine Gun Carriage" (MMGC) designation and, when mounted atop the M20 trailer, the system became the "M55 Machine Gun Trailer Mount" (MGTM). In practice, the M45 Quadmount gave exceptional service for its given short-ranged, air defense role.

Situated on the Trailer M20 and minus the armored shield, this version was the .50 Multiple Machine Gun Carriage M55. At a little more than 3,000 pounds loaded for combat, it could be pulled by jeep.

This fully restored M55 Quadmount (class A) is in perfect condition, as seen in recent photos, and is fully functional. The restoration of the M45 Quadmount and the matching M20 trailer took place in 2021.

Jun 12, 2020 · We have examples of both the M16 and the later M55 in our collection. The M16 MGMC was an U.S. self-propelled AA weapon built during World War II. It was equipped with four M2 Browning machine guns in an M45 Quadmount.

The above image is a view of the multiple machine gun mount, often called a quadmount, installed on an M20 trailer. This gun mount was developed by the W. L. Maxon Company at the request of the U.S. Army for light anti-aircraft weapons. The turret was tested successfully and immediately adopted by the U.S. Army.

Maxon turret imported from Denmark in 2002, purchased in 2003. No previous unit markings found, but US Army markings found under many layers of paint.
