Aug 14, 2017 · If it is a German Kar 98k, it was chambered in 7.92x57 aka 8mm Mauser. Surplus is is distant memory...there might be some small amounts of Yugo surplus around. The '70s Yugo surplus was good. Portuguese 8mm non corrosive was fantastic. Handload or perhaps purchase Prvi Partisan...Remington and Winchester 8mm Mauser is is crap.

Jan 1, 2009 · I replaced the original safety and installed a new low bolt safety on a mauser military 98 action. The new safety is designed to work with a scope. The original safety would rotate and lock the bolt back while cocked in the action. The new safety will not rotate and lock the bolt while it is cocked in the action.

May 3, 2010 · So then after some thinking I settled on getting a custom Leupold 6x36mm with the German #1 recital, much better scope for the money compared to the replica stuff imho. Now the Leupold scope has a 1 inch tube, to the best of my knowledge, the actual Mauser scope mounts do not have 1" rings.

So you may want to start by picking which variant you would like to build. The Turret Mounts are the most iconic in my opinion, however finding people that do them correctly can be a challenge sometimes.
