Differentiate and integrate algebraic, exponential, logarithmic, and multivariable functions. Analyze graphs to determine where the graphs are increasing, decreasing, continuous, and determine the limits of functions. Classify values as the minimum or maximum values of functions. Calculate the area between two curves.

Math 121 covers: properties and graphs of functions; solving equations; trigonometric identities and applications of trigonometric functions; complex numbers; and an introduction to vectors.

Math 121: College Algebra Mathematics. In this course, students will learn how to solve types of equations such as linear, quadratic, higher-order, rational, radical, exponential, and logarithmic equations. Students will also solve linear, polynomial, and rational inequalities.

Understanding the concept of a limit and being able to evaluate elementary exam-ples of indeterminate forms. Recognizing when a function is continuous and knowing certain implications-such as the Intermediate Value Theorem.

Introduction to mathematical topics pertinent to Computer Information Systems: number bases, computer coding, logic, set theory, Boolean algebra and logic gates.

Derivatives, antiderivatives, and integrals of functions of one real variable. Trigonometric, inverse trigonometric, logarithmic and exponential functions. This course implements the Virginia standards and the NCTM standards for mathematics education. The primary goal is to prepare students for effective classroom teaching in the elementary and middle school grades.

This is a second course in linear algebra, with an emphasis on understanding linear algebra at a more abstract level and learning to read and write proofs. Topics include real and complex vector spaces, linear transformations, and eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Mathematics 19b or 21b or an equivalent background in mathematics.
