Apr 17, 2022 · Mama hens chicks have been hatching, well only one is thriving. Two were alive yesterday and doing well, but then one of those two died today sometime. Two also died while hatching ( not sure what happened. ) But I found this one struggling hard just hatched out the egg today and mama hen wasn’t caring for it so now I have it in the broody box.

Sep 23, 2013 · One of my hens (EE mutt) is already one year old and she has been a good layer, but stops for 2-3 months due to winter and molting. The big red hen (not sure if RIR or just sex-link) is about 10 months old and lays HUGE brown eggs. Since I can tell the hen's eggs apart, I will candle to see if one or both have fertile eggs and plan likewise.

I'm not sure what to do as they start getting bigger. They have plenty of room but I would like them to integrate into the flock, and I know they will soon need more room.

May 25, 2022 · Now roughly 7-8weeks later... our mama hen is turning on the chicks. We are assuming it is possibly weaning process? So yesterday was the start and she would chase them off. They all ended up perched on the house (working on getting an actual perch up higher soon). If they flew down, she’d chase them to where they would just fly up on the house.
