The M3A2 incorporated enhanced armor upgrades, such as the ability to mount explosive reactive armor, from the M2A2 Bradley. After live fire testing, seating and ammunition stowage arrangements were also changed, with the observers moved to a bench on the left side of the vehicle and the missile stowage rearranged to enhance safety.

Variants include the M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle and the M3 Bradley reconnaissance vehicle. The M2 holds a crew of three—a commander, a gunner and a driver—along with six fully equipped soldiers.

1-10. M2A2 and M3A2 The M2A2 and M3A2 vehicles (fig 1–2) are product TM 55-2350-252-14 improvements to the M2/M2A1 and M3/M3Al vehicles. These improvements are a600-horsepower diesel engine and additional bolt-on armor (not shown in fig 1–2). The side firing ports and associated supplementary weapons on the M2/M2A1 are deleted from the M2A2.
