The Kentucky Board of Licensed Professional Counselors administers and enforces its statutory authority and monitors the needs of the consuming public. The board examines and licenses all eligible candidates for entry into the profession as a professional counselor.

Part of the Public Protection Cabinet, the Kentucky Board for Licensure for Professional Counselors issues the licenses you need if you want to engage in professional counseling throughout the state. The Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) is the main license.

A master’s, specialist, or doctoral degree in counseling comprising at least 60 credits, including content in nine core areas and a 600-hour practicum or internship, is required for LPCC licensure in Kentucky.

Apply to the Kentucky Office of Occupations and Professions to receive your Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) title. Accumulate the required hours for your supervised experience requirement.

To enroll and bill Kentucky Medicaid, LPCC and LPCCA service providers must be: Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC) and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors Associates (LPCCA) must be licensed according to KRS 335.525.

Applicants can submit initial and reinstatement licensing applications online for the Board of Licensed Professional Counselors. Select the ‘Initial License Application’ menu option. Refer to the LPCC Supervisor List.
