Lohana (also referred to as Loharana, Thakkar, and Barai) are a trading or mercantile jāti mostly in India and also in Pakistan. [1] [2] The Lohanas are divided into many separate cultural groups as a result of centuries apart in different regions.

Aug 22, 2018 · Lohanas’ history begins with King Luv. Around 580 BC, Hindu society came to be divided into four different castes based on their occupation. These four castes (in order of ranking) were Kshatriyas (warriors, holders of authority and land-owners), Brahmins (priests and teachers), Vaisyas (merchants and traders) and Sudras (labourers).
There were about 24 provinces in the Lohar Pradesh and the people were called Lohranas (Loh= iron, ranas= soldiers, warrior). They being in the northwest frontline, were seen by the other rulers (there were many) in India as their protectors from the invading Turks and the other land invaders.
