HFLA of Northeast Ohio has been a community resource since making its first interest-free loan in 1904. Today, HFLA’s impact is as significant as ever, helping students, businesses, and residents of Northeast Ohio attain financial stability through interest-free lending.

Since 1914, HFLA has been offering financial assistance, in the Jewish tradition of interest-free lending, for the Washington State Jewish community.

Interest-free loans, instead of charity handouts, fill an important gap in our social system by promoting self-sufficiency with dignity. HFLA affirms the ancient biblical requirement for interest-free lending by offering assistance to people in need, with the goal of helping them to lead more rewarding and responsible lives.

Hebrew Free Loan Association of Northeast Ohio (HFLA) is an American non-sectarian 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that loans money interest-free to people who do not have easy access to other capital.

The Jewish community, led by the Jewish Federation of San Antonio (JFSA), helped mitigate the crisis. After receiving $50,000 in emergency funding from the JFSA, HFLA-SA lent $442,000 to 88 borrowers.
