In September 2024, the company refreshed the AirPods Max's selection of color options and swapped the Lightning port for USB-C. There were no other differences between the devices, but the USB-C version did not support wired audio input.

Apple will need to offer a small selection of Lightning-based accessories for a few years to come, but we are close to the full sunsetting of the Lightning port and connector.

May 17, 2024 · The Lightning port should've never existed. It was the exact same USB 2.0 spec as the Apple 30-pin port it replaced. The Lightning port was released in 2012. The first Macs with Thunderbolt 1 ports were released in early 2011. Therefore, the Lightning should've never existed.

My iPhone 13 lightning port does not work with some accessories while my wife's iPhone 13PM and my company's iPhone 12 are both perfectly fine. For now, one SD card reader and one external battery pack work with other two devices without any issue.

Nov 13, 2015 · There was a significant amount of lint in my port, which kept the cord from seating properly. A word of caution: try to stay down the center of the port as there are pins on both walls. not trying to scare anyone off, but just don't scrape the walls with the blade. The bottom of the port is a white if you put it under direct light.

Unofficial adapters are fully functioning, but those tend to play horrible static over sound. I have cleaned the Lightning port, looked at all possible settings, and restarted again, to no avail.
