Lapland, region of northern Europe largely within the Arctic Circle, stretching across northern Norway, Sweden, and Finland and into the Kola Peninsula of Russia. It is bounded by the Norwegian Sea on the west, the Barents Sea on the north, and the White Sea on the east.

Lapland borders the Finnish region of North Ostrobothnia in the south. It also borders the Gulf of Bothnia, Norrbotten County in Sweden, Finnmark County and Troms County in Norway, and Murmansk Oblast and the Republic of Karelia in Russia. The topography of Lapland varies from vast mires and forests in the south to fells in the north.

The north-west Finnish Lapland, also known as Fell-Lapland includes the "arm" of Finland, with all the highest fells of Finland. Like the north-east, much of it belongs to the Sámi native region.

Lapland of Samenland (Noord-Samisch en Zweeds Sápmi, Lule-Samisch Sábme, Zuid-Samisch Saemie, Noors Sameland) is de culturele regio die traditioneel wordt bewoond door de Samen (ook wel Lappen). De Samen beschikken wel over meerdere eigen talen (de Samische talen), maar niet over een eigen staat .
