That's handy because the Cub cabinet is small, made of particle board, and can be a little boxy sounding in a band context. I have a large open back Mojotone 12 inch cab that I sometimes gig with the Cub 10.

Oct 26, 2022 · In my quest for budget champ goodness, I found this Laney Cub 8 - single 12ax7, single 6v6gt, 8" speaker. It sounds really good, but haven't had a chance to run it wide open yet and really give it a run. The main thing I notice is that the lower the volume, the brighter the amp is. It really darkens up quite a bit above 5 on the volume knob.

The Cub 10 does have a larger speaker and a master volume, so it may be better for you depending on what you want. It had enough oomph for clean headroom in a gigging situation and the half power setting worked. It had a sort of thickness or contour control that added a sort of midrange boost to the tone, could go from quite scooped Fendery to throaty Marshally.
