In the movie Langdon tells the story of “la Purga” (the Purge) as follows: “1668, the church kidnapped four Illuminati scientists and branded each one of them on the chest with the symbol of the cross, to purge them of their sins.

Brown discusses "la purga" in 1668 when the church branded 4 illuminati scientists with crosses. Well again, there was no Illuminati in the 1600s. And I don't find any record of public brandings of scientists in 1668.
