In 1902, John G Robinson took in hand some of the older Class 18 0-6-0s and transformed them into saddle-tank engines; the program lasted 4 years and made use of as much of the original engine as possble.

The London and North Eastern Railway (LNER) produced several classes of locomotive, mostly to the designs of Nigel Gresley, characterised by a three-cylinder layout with a parallel boiler and round-topped firebox.

The NBR F Class (LNER Class J88) was a class of 0-6-0 tank locomotives, designed by William P. Reid on the North British Railway. [1] They were used for dockyard shunting duties. [1]

The Sacre GCR Class 18 (LNER J8 Engine 309B) 0-6-0 Locomotive Sacre was noted for his preference for double-framed designs, but he did design a number of single-framed locomotives. The most numerous of these were his Class 18 locomotives.
