The London and North Eastern Railway Class J38 was a class of steam locomotive designed for freight transport. They were designed by Nigel Gresley and introduced in 1926. A total of 35 were built at the LNER's Darlington Works in 1926 and they were used in Scotland.

The J38 0-6-0 locomotives were the first LNER group standard type, but only one batch of thirty five were built due to the advent of the more versatile J39 0-6-0 modification.

Ex-LNER Gresley 'J38' class 0-6-0 No. 65918. Built at Darlington in March 1926 as LNER No. 1421 and withdrawn in November 1966. Sir Nigel's 0-6-0 class 'J38' was somewhat overshadowed by his achievements with his Pacifics and V2s.
