Feb 20, 2016 · The name Coot-tha comes from the Aboriginal word ku-ta meaning honey. This area was where the Aboriginal people collected honey from the native stingless bee. Coot-tha means ‘place of honey’. Mount Coot-tha was home to the Turrbal Aboriginal people for tens of thousands of years before European settlement.
leading to Mount Coot-tha – a place of the honeybee – ‘kuta’ – our College mascot. Today, Mt Coot-tha takes its name from the bees, as the area was a source for collecting honey. The dark and sour honey from the Mt Coot-tha area was noted for its quality.
