Btw if you're using OneDrive or something similar, please double check your files sometimes, there was a fix that should theoretically finish all the troubles with this kind of software but still, sometimes it interferes with the saving process and the file comes out of it crambled (so you can't open it in Krita later).

So now, if you ever stumble upon a Krita file, and you don't have Krita on the current machine, just type Photopea.com in your browser and drag-and-drop the .KRA file, to see what is inside. It works locally and even 1 GB files can be opened instantly.

Feb 22, 2023 · Kra~ are just backup files, they are a complete copy of a kra file. If you take off the ~ it becames a normal kra file. They are super useful if your main file gets corrupted for some reason so i don't get why you want to get rid of them so bad. Once you are finished with your work you can just delete the backup file.

Everytime I used autosave my drawings saved in .kra format with all the layers, but recently they started automatically saving as png and merging all the layers. If I click "save" there is no option to choose .kra. It's extremely annoying because the app crashes often and …

Even better, use File -> Export and either choose PNG in the dropdown, or save as "file.png", with the .png extension. If you don't want to use Krita, you can unzip .kra file (because every .kra is a .zip as well) and take mergedimage.png out of it. It might not have the correct color space though, for example for HDR images.

Mar 13, 2021 · Krita seems to make auto save files using “.KRA~” file type. My art folder will have name.kra AND name.kra~ documents. However, Krita doesn’t let me open them. I couldn’t find one of my projects except the KRA~ file, I need to recover this. Help?

Jan 5, 2024 · 1st problem: Opening the .kra file using "Ctrl+O" via Krita, Krita then stops responding indefinitely. 2nd problem: I can't copy the file to a different folder. It stops at 82% and then softlocks, my entire system malfunctions as a result. 3rd problem: I can't move the file to a different folder, it also stops at 82%, system locks up again.

Aug 30, 2019 · I went to properties and changed the title from a .kra file to a .png file. Opened it in Krita. The picture showed back up along with all of my layers. I changed the name, put it under a different name and made 2 versions as a .kra file and as a .png file just in case. The zip method didn't work for me at all but I'm glad I was able to fix it.
