Knox is a caring and supportive friend, with romantic tendencies that emerge later on due to the passion instilled in him from Keating's teachings. He loves his friends dearly and channels his inner carpe diem to make moves towards his new found love, Chris. He is also ambitious and a curious student in Mr. Keating's lessons.

Knox is a thoughtful, romantic student at Welton. Over the course of the novel, he falls in love with Chris Noel, the girlfriend of a family friend’s son. Knox’s first attempts to woo Chris are disrespectful at best and assaultive at worst; he even gropes Chris at a party.

Knox is also inspired by the values of the DPS. He decides to pursue Chris, the girl he's recently fallen in love with, despite the fact that she has a boyfriend.

Knox appears uncomfortable, watching Chris and Chet dance from afar, but drinks when two of Chet’s friends mistake him for someone else and coerce him. Back in the cave, the girls want the meeting to begin so they can know whether or not to “join.”
