Kaufering (German pronunciation: [ˈkaʊfəʁɪŋ]) was a system of eleven subcamps of the Dachau concentration camp which operated between 18 June 1944 and 27 April 1945 and which were located around the towns of Landsberg am Lech and Kaufering in Bavaria.

At Kaufering IV, the SS set fire to the barracks killing hundreds of prisoners who were too ill or weak to move. When the 12th Armored Division and 101st Airborne Division arrived at Kaufering IV on April 27 and 28, respectively, the soldiers discovered some 500 dead inmates.

Mar 3, 2009 · The Kaufering IV sub-camp of Dachau was liberated by the 12th Armored Division of the US Seventh Army on April 27, 1945 with help from soldiers in the 101st Airborne Division, who arrived on April 28, 1945.

More than 6,500 people – known by name – perished in the Kaufering camps. 3,500 prisoners were deported to other camps such as Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen where they were murdered or abandoned to their fate.

On June 20, 1944, the first shipment of 1,000 Jewish concentration camp prisoners from Auschwitz arrived at Kaufering. They were scheduled to help build three gigantic subterraneous bunkers of a project that was named „Ringeltaube“.

Jan 1, 2000 · Around 2,000 dead from Kaufering VII were buried in mass graves nearby. At the end of April 1945, the SS evacuated the camp as American troops approached. With crude violence the SS forced thousands of prisoners on a march (death march) to Dachau, Allach, an then southward.
