Kaga (Japanese: 加賀, named after the ancient Kaga Province) was an aircraft carrier built for the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN).

Kaga and Izumo are the first aircraft carriers built by Japan since the end of World War II. Kaga was built as part of a wider Japanese military buildup, triggered by heightened Sino-Japanese tensions regarding the contested ownership of the Senkaku Islands.

Kaga, the first Japanese carrier hit at Midway, was the prime target, but even he was unable to locate her final resting place. In 1999 a team from the undersea exploration group Nauticos found pieces of Kaga’s wreckage, a portion of her hull and anti-aircraft batteries, but not the main ship.
