Oct 22, 2008 · What is the ruling on kissing the cover of the Ka’bah, the Black Stone and the Mus-haf? Praise be to Allah. Kissing any place on earth is bid’ah (an innovation), apart from the Black Stone. Were it not that this is following the example of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), kissing the Black Stone would be bid’ah too.

Muslim pilgrims circle the Kaaba as a part of the tawaf ritual during the hajj and many try to stop to kiss the Black Stone, emulating the kiss that Islamic tradition records that it received from Muhammad.

So, when Muslims visit the Haram Mosque in Mecca, they make it a point to try to touch or to kiss the Black Stone (Hajr Aswad) as they circumambulate (tawaf) the Ka’bah. They do it because Prophet Mohammed (SAW) did so during his own life. (Sunnah)

May 31, 2024 · Kissing or touching the Black Stone at the Ka`bah is an optional action, not obligatory or prescribed. Those who kiss the Black Stone or touch it do not do it because they have faith in the Stone or attribute any superstitious qualities to it.

Feb 5, 2019 · With regard to the words mentioned, “Whoever kisses the Black Stone will be admitted to Paradise without being brought to account,” we have not found this in any of the books of Sunnah, either with a saheeh (sound) isnaad or a da‘eef (weak) one.

‘Umar ibn al-Khattāb, Commander of the Believers, (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Black Stone in the corner of the Ka‘bah and kissed it. He, then, said: Verily, I know that you are a stone that can neither harm nor benefit. Had I not seen the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) kissing you, I would not have kissed you.

`Umar came near the Black Stone and kissed it and said "No doubt, I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit anyone nor harm anyone. Had I not seen Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) kissing you I would not have kissed you."
