Sep 29, 2013 · Rover Design tips/facts: Learn your lowest object placement on the base of your rover by placing the radio antenna on the base, extended and observing the suspension while going at high speeds over hills/bumps. (This takes some practice) Usually a 4 donut wheeled rover can only go 20~30m/s on flat land before flipping out and killing itself.

Mar 1, 2023 · Attach your rover to the decoupler and adjust the interstage node of the engine mount so that it's a bit below the rover's wheels. Above the engine mount I like to put an MRW-250 with four radial decouplers with LT-2 Wombats attached. Be sure to move the wombats down until the extended legs stop well below the rover.

Feb 5, 2017 · My preferred approach is to remap the rover control buttons. I like to be able to steer the rover while mid-jump (to set it wheels down) using reaction wheels, but when I braked on Minmus (in flat terrain) and my rover did a very graceful backflip, it was a little awkward So I unmap camera controls from arrows and remap rover controls to them, leaving WSAD for reaction wheels and RCS rotation.

Apr 11, 2023 · The rover I just designed-- a fairly simple one-- my first, reacts in unexpected ways to my inputs. By pressing "W", it pitches up and in fact flips right over. If I press "S", it pitches back down and moves backwards. "A" and "D" do almost nothing to steer the beast but they do try.

Sep 6, 2013 · Remap the rover keys so they are different than WASD. That way SAS won't try to flip the rover every time you try to drive it. Disable the motors on the back wheels to make it harder to flip when accelerating. Quicksave often. It's really easy to trash a rover. You can increase the number of light sources your computer will render individually.
