KD Lekiu is a Lekiu-class guided missile frigate currently serving in the Royal Malaysian Navy and one of the major naval assets for Malaysia. Together with her sister ship Jebat, Lekiu serves in the 23rd Frigate Squadron of the Royal Malaysian Navy. [1]

The Lekiu-class frigates are a class of frigates of the Royal Malaysian Navy. They are the largest and most modern surface combatants of the Royal Malaysian Navy, until the Maharaja Lela-class frigates are completed. The class comprises two vessels, KD Jebat and KD Lekiu.

May 3, 2001 · The first ship, the Lekiu (30), was launched in December 1994. The ship can attain a speed of 28kt and has a range of over 5,000 miles. The Seawolf short-range missile provides protection against supersonic aircraft and anti-ship missiles to a range of 6km.

May 24, 2023 · Powered by four diesel engines driving two shafts, KD Lekiu generates 16,000 brake horsepower (11,931 kilowatts), enabling it to achieve a speed of 28 knots (32 mph or 52 km/h). Its range reaches an impressive 5,000 miles (8,000 kilometers), ensuring extended operational capabilities.

The Lekiu class frigates are presently the most modern major assets of the Royal Malaysian Navy. The class comprises two vessels, F29 KD Jebat and F30 KD Lekiu. The class is named after the second ship of the class which was launched earlier than the Jebat.
