Oct 6, 2007 · If we go back to my V-drive vs. Jet example, according to the diagram, the V-drive should be slower, because the conventional propeller prop efficiency shows a sharp decline after 20 knots, and crossing over with the jet drive at 50 knots.

Mar 23, 2017 · I’m aware of the issues with jet drives at low speed. The persistent question to me is whether the alternatives are any better. I’m not expecting high performance, but I picture a PWC drive (sans motor) as a modular and readily available tunnel drive.

Apr 11, 2011 · I am wondering about the feasability of buildng a low power (20hp) jet drive unit using off the shelf components. The idea is to connect a suitable water pump to an industrial (Briggs, Honda, etc ) engine. The vertical shaft v-twin lawn mower type engines are readily available and inexpensive. A 20 hp Briggs is under $1000 new and around 100lbs.

Feb 28, 2013 · Currently I'm building small boat and have stupid idea to equip it with 5 hp water jet propulsion. Can't use bigger engine now because in my country exist some rules with this. I understand that I will lose half of the engine power by installing water jet drive, but I need waterjet because will sail in the shallow waters of the river.

Jan 4, 2018 · The whole point of asking was not a cost thing or a a bunch or alternative suggestions is was to open a discussion on the feasibility of a small jet drive powered by whatever at lower speeds. A gentlemen posted earlier that the new sea doo were 200+ hp and I get it it that is what you are using it for.

May 13, 2016 · A DIY jet drive would be like a steam powered outboard. You could probably do it, and it would make an interesting conversation piece, but you shouldn't expect anything that performs within an order of magnitude of a professionally designed and manufactured drive.
