Jean "Yanko" Varda (11 September 1893—10 January 1971) was a Turkish-born American artist, best known for his collage work. Varda was one of the early adopters of the Sausalito houseboat lifestyle that was popular in the 1960s–1970s. [1] He was the subject of the short documentary, Uncle Yanco (1967), made by his cousin, Agnès Varda.

Jean “Yanko” Varda (1893-1971) was best known for his collages, which he made from bits of paper, textiles and paint, mounted on plywood. Born to Greek parents in Smyrna (now Izmir,in Turkey), Varda, moved first to Paris as a young man, then to London, before traveling to New York for an exhibit of his work in 1939.
