The EMD GP9R was a rebuild from EMD GP9 diesel locomotives that were rebuilt by the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company, Grand Trunk Western Railroad, Southern Pacific Transportation Company.

Born from the basis of the new OS R2105 but customized in some aspects as always happens in our engines: -IELASITUNED exclusive crankcase cap -R2105 9-light cylinder but with “tight fit” treatment as in the GP9R'22 to increase reliability -New lightened cooling (-8grams)

Used in "secret" by our official drivers, the new GP9R24 engine compared to the GP9R23WC has a new, exclusive IELASITUNED piston which allows us to have a tighter piston/cylinder coupling than the WC, (but at the same time facilitates the running-in phase of the WC engine), this allows us to maintain better compression even when hot.

Compared to their previous flagship GP9R23WC engine the the new GP9R24 engine get an exclusive Ielasi Tuned piston which allows the Italian engine tuners to have a tighter piston/cylinder coupling than the WC allows it to maintain better compression even when hot.

The new GP9R’22 has also changed its external look, red lettering and the crankcase cap make the engine more attractive and visually different from the previous version.

Apr 6, 2025 · According to my sources, class GR417a GP9Rs were rebuilt between 1989-93 with 16-645C upgrades. 645C????? 645C -- that means 645 power assemblies mounted on the original 567C crank case? A lot of railroads did this. Sometimes, at least, it led to a 2000 hp rating.
