Capturing the ripples of spacetime: LISA gets go-ahead
Jan 25, 2024 · Today, ESA’s Science Programme Committee approved the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) mission, the first scientific endeavour to detect and study gravitational waves from space.
ESA - LISA - European Space Agency
ESA's Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) will be the first space-based observatory dedicated to studying gravitational waves: ripples in the fabric of space-time emitted during the most powerful events in the Universe, such as pairs of black holes coming together and merging.
ESA - LISA factsheet - European Space Agency
LISA will be the first space-based observatory dedicated to studying gravitational waves: ripples in the fabric of space-time emitted during the most powerful events in the Universe, such as pairs of black holes coming together and merging. LISA will be the first mission to probe the history of the Universe using these waves.
Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) Passes Mission Adoption - NASA
On 1/25/24, ESA (European Space Agency), announced the formal adoption of LISA, the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna, to its mission lineup, with launch slated for the mid-2030s. ESA leads the mission, with NASA serving as a collaborative partner.
NASA unveils model of LISA, a satellite array for studying ripples …
Oct 22, 2024 · NASA has released new images of the full-scale prototypes of six telescopes slated to observe some of the universe’s tiniest fluctuations. On October 22, the agency showed off mock-ups of the Laser...

LISA Pathfinder - Wikipedia
LISA Pathfinder was a proof-of-concept mission to prove that the two masses can fly through space, untouched but shielded by the spacecraft, and maintain their relative positions to the precision needed to realise a full gravitational wave observatory planned for launch in 2035.
COSMOS Science Survey - LISA - Cosmos - European Space Agency
LISA measures precise, gravitationally-calibrated absolute luminosity distances to high redshift, with the potential of contributing uniquely to measurement of the Hubble constant and dark energy. LISA studies in detail thousands of compact binary stars in the Galaxy, providing a new window into matter at the extreme endpoints of stellar evolution.

LISA, the first gravitational-wave observatory in space gets go
Jan 25, 2024 · LISA will detect, across the entire Universe, the ripples in spacetime caused when huge black holes at the centres of galaxies collide. This will enable scientists to trace the origin of these objects, to chart how they grow to be millions of times more massive than the Sun and to establish the role they play in the evolution of galaxies.
