He seems afraid to fight, cocky seeing how "he's only a human", plus the whole flirting with Yukina thing.

Jul 18, 2022 · i dont know, kurama pulled out some new shit like every single fight he was in. hiei probably doesnt know all of kurama's techniques either while kurama knows that hiei just uses basic sword moves along with dragon of the darkness flame and dragon of the immolation flame. sure hiei would be on guard, but so was everyone else that fought kurama after already knowing that he uses plants and stuff.

Not even close, the power that Toguro showed in the final fight is far above anything we had seen in the anime until then, if Hiei had been more powerful Toguro would not have been the "final boss" of that season and the most powerful they would have left it to Yusuke, who is the most powerful of the group.

Like, at the beginning of the story before he was supposed to be a main character he was just power-hungry demon of the week but if you look at it through the scope of "He's trying to get stronger to protect her" it makes a little more sense.
