Sawlaram Lakshman Haldankar (1882–1968), also known as S L Haldankar, was a well-known Indian painter. Haldankar was born into a family from Sawantwadi, which was then a Princely State and is located today in Maharashtra state. He showed early talent in the arts and this was noticed by the headmaster of his school in Sawantwadi.

Sawalaram Laxman Haldankar was born on 25th November, 1882 in Savantwadi, Maharashtra. He studied at the Sir J.J School of Art where he trained under Cecil Burns and M. V. Dhurandhar. He distinguished himself quite early in his career and secured prizes and medals for exhibitions held in Madras, Bombay and Simia.

S. L. Haldankar was born in 1882. He has completed dimploma for Sir J. J. School of Art in 1903. He has passed two grade examinations under the guidance of an expert art teachr N. S. Malnkar.

Born in Sawantwadi, a princely state in the Bombay Presidency of the British Raj, or present-day Maharashtra, his talent for the arts was spotted by his school headmaster and Haldankar received a scholarship to study at Sir J. J. School of Art, from where he took a diploma in painting in 1903.
