The gilt-head bream (Sparus aurata), also known as the gilthead, gilt-head seabream or silver seabream, is a species of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Sparidae, the seabreams or porgies.

The gilthead seabream, scientifically known as Sparus aurata, carries a rich historical legacy, once referred to in ancient times as Orata. Belonging to the Sparidi’s bream family, this fish is predominantly found in the Mediterranean and the eastern coastal regions of Italy.
