Thousands of surplus Model 1896 Swedish Mausers were imported into the U.S. during the 1950's and 1960's, introducing large numbers of American hunters to both the 6.5x55 cartridge and the Swedish Mauser service rifle. The m/96 became one of the most desirable surplus rifles.

Aug 21, 2007 · Modern collectors often refer to the early pattern converted M96 rifles as the M96/38. The Swedish military, however, made no such distinction. All M38 patterns were referred to simply as M38, regardless of manufacture or type of bolt body.

Always considered a jewel among the many fine Mauser rifles made, the Swedish M96 is a real treasure. This gun has the same action as the M94 carbine that preceded it. I was delighted when Hunter’s Lodge sent me a M1896 Swedish Mauser made by Carl Gustafs for review.

Jan 24, 2017 · Well, here are sample pictures from my own all-matching M96 of 1915 vintage, showing all serial numbers to be found on a Carl Gustafs-built M96. Mauser/Oberndorf- and Husqvarna-made M96s were stamped differently!
