Georgism is seriously different from property taxes. Property taxes tax the value of the developed land, while a land value tax as george proposed taxes JUST the value of the undeveloped land. Georgism is a belief that everyone has an inalienable right to their own labor, while socialism is a belief that all labor belongs to society, these views are not compatible. As far as my opinion, I can see where socialists are coming from, but they are of course wrong, and the belief itself is inherently evil from a Georgist perspective.

A more modern take on Georgism would be that the capital gains tax on land should be higher than on other assets, or that a capital gains tax should be implemented as a "single tax" in the original sense (but perhaps not bound to only gains on land).

May 25, 2023 · IMO a lot of georgism is the gap between property taxes and LVT is relatively small when you aren't next to people. That's partially why they only really talked about in the late 1800s.
