Aug 5, 2021 · I like to purchase either the xm177e2 or the GAU-5 I checked the cult website and they do not list the gau-5. Anyway I think I like the gau-5 better without the forward button. Colt XM177E1 : GAU-5/A clone build questions. - AR15.COM
Oct 10, 2023 · The GAU-5's as "mixmasters" is a fallacy. USAF bought GAU-5 carbines starting with the GAU-5/A through (and mostly, in my experience) GAU-5/A/A's. Once they began to wear out they got 14.5" 1/12" barrels and became GAU-5/P's. This was probably for a short time as they had to transition away from M193 ammo.

Oct 12, 2020 · Colt made different model runs of the various carbines in this serial number block, Commando, GAU-5/A, XM177E2, and GAU-5/A/A. My research included 24 original known carbines, 25 XM177E2 Reissues, and 1 GAU-5A/A Reissue. Below I bracketed the high and low of each serial number for each production model run of the carbines.

Apr 9, 2018 · After that GAU-5, and then the GUU-5 in about 2010. 2012'ish we got M4's. And I bitched every second about not having a GUU or GAU. I like them very much especially for what I was doing. I built a GAU-5 on one of the 1:12 barrels in original foil packaging datestamped 1993 from the EE back in 2009ish. It's as close to issue without the fun switch.

Jul 25, 2011 · There seems to be some discrepancies in the markings of the GAU-5A/A. The Colt in the very nice pic that lt557 posted looks to be marked GAU-5/A/A, while others seem to be marked GAU-5A/A, which would appear to follow the standard marking convention. I’d like to see some other pics if people have them.

May 29, 2016 · As far as I know the XM177 was only an air force carbine. The USAF didn't believe in the need for a forward assist so they had the slick side upper with the 10" barrel (XM177) and designated it as the GAU-5/A. The XM177E1 was the forward assist army version and was stamped COMMANDO. It was identical to the GAU-5/A except for the forward assist.

Aug 11, 2020 · Vickers Tactical GAU-5/A/A Clone Video Larry does a nice little video on "Colt's" GAU-5/A/A clone that's actually made by U.S. Ordnance. Looks a bit more authentic than the Troy for double the money. (Assuming it's MSRP is the same as the XM177E2's $2600)

Mar 27, 2022 · 2K is a bargain since there were only 500 of them made. I’ve seen them sell for much more. Hell, I paid much more. The original GAU-5/a/a were black, not grey which is why the retro reproduction is black as well. Only 2 I can find for sale on the bet right now.
