May 31, 2017 · The key with these RPM belts is, in metallurgical terms (which has nothing to do with a belt), since they are "harder" they are also more "brittle" - and unlike a stretchy belt that can bounce all over the place - these RPM belts don't like being hard stopped by a tensioner at all and a single bounce off a stop can damage the belts core and make it break - so proper tensioning is SUPER important.

Mar 23, 2025 · The gates racing belts have been discounted, but I still offer the Gates HD belts, they're the way to go. And as @Vinnie_B said, I recommend the ARS tensioner. Our cars now 11+ years old and the stock tensioner can only take so much abuse, the ARS tensioner will help with any kind of belt slip and will last the life of the car. View attachment ...

Apr 11, 2003 · As a sidenote, I compared the 3 month old Goodyear Gatorback belt #4080745 with the new Goodyear belt and there is a size difference. Both belts are the exact same part number, yet the old belt is now slightly longer than the new belt; therefore, the GOODYEAR BELTS DO STRETCH contrary to what I originally believed.

May 20, 2018 · So on my 4.0 pulley with a gates k080785 was close to 50%. A gates k080774 was at 80% or so with the 3.5 pulley. So I picked up the Gates rpm k080780 after thinking about lengths of belts and where the tensioner would be at. But yeah it is Belt length dependent for sure. fyi: the belts I had are all newer so weren't stretched out over use.
