The short answer is that GDDR5 results in faster memory bandwidth than DDR3. The longer answer is that GDDR5 is the more recent type of double data ram, the "G" standing for "graphics", and is just for graphics cards.

Mar 1, 2014 · The only time you see GDDR3 Vs. GDDR5 is on slower graphics cards, there's a reason faster graphics cards all have GDDR5 right now. The only time you need more memory on a graphics card is when you're doing hi resolution gaming, and since low end cards won't do hi resolution gaming very well, the best bet is the faster memory.
